Joining Forces to End Human Trafficking: A Call to Action
Welcome to our blog, where we are dedicated to exploring ways to combat and ultimately put an end to human trafficking. This global issue affects millions of lives and demands our collective effort to bring about lasting change. In this article, we will highlight some effective strategies and practical steps that you can take to contribute to this important cause.
- Raising Awareness: Knowledge is a powerful tool in the fight against human trafficking. Educate yourself and others about the signs, causes, and consequences of this crime. Share informative articles, documentaries, and books, and engage in discussions both online and offline. By spreading awareness, you can help prevent potential victims from falling prey to traffickers.
- Support and Collaborate with Nonprofit Organizations: Numerous organizations worldwide are dedicated to combating human trafficking. Visit their websites, learn about their missions, and join their campaigns. Support these organizations through donations, volunteering, or fundraising events. By working together, we can amplify our impact and provide resources to survivors of trafficking.
- Advocate for Policy Change: Contact your local representatives and policymakers to express your concerns about human trafficking. Encourage them to support legislation aimed at strengthening laws against trafficking and providing greater protection for survivors. Additionally, support organizations that engage in advocacy work and lobby for effective policies on a national and international level.
- Promote Ethical Consumption: Become a conscious consumer by supporting companies that prioritize ethical practices within their supply chains. Research the products you buy to ensure they are not made using forced labor or exploited workers. By choosing ethically produced goods and services, you can help reduce the demand that fuels human trafficking.
- Engage in Community Outreach: Join community groups, religious organizations, and local initiatives focused on preventing human trafficking. Volunteer your time and skills to support awareness campaigns, mentorship programs, and survivor rehabilitation efforts. Building strong community networks is crucial in preventing trafficking and supporting survivors.
- Utilize Technology: Harness the power of technology to combat human trafficking. Support and engage with organizations that use innovative solutions like artificial intelligence, data analysis, and machine learning to identify patterns and potential trafficking activities. Stay updated on advancements in technology that can aid in the fight against this crime.
- Educate the Next Generation: Empower younger generations by integrating anti-trafficking education into school curricula. Encourage open discussions about human rights, consent, and the dangers of trafficking. Equip young people with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their peers from exploitation.
Finally, Ending human trafficking requires a collective effort from individuals, communities, and governments across the globe. By raising awareness, supporting nonprofit organizations, advocating for policy change, promoting ethical consumption, engaging in community outreach, utilizing technology, and educating the next generation, we can make a significant impact in the fight against this heinous crime. Together, we can create a world where every individual is free from the chains of human trafficking.

STEAM GARDEN LAB
Through the use of the Problem based learning methodology the STEAM girls have been able to better understand the challenges of gardening and apply new methods to improve e.g. soil acidity, water retention, parasites and other predators etc.
The gardening project certainly helps build the social group collaboration, increase a sense of responsibility and ownership. Overall the project has built more confidence in the girls and uncovered their individual unique abilities through the different task or duties.
We also enjoyed a great job shadowing this year!
Our STEAM girls successfully completed their 1st independent farming project, learning more about the complexity of the processes of farming. This experience enables them not only to understand business processes but also to better understand where their food comes from.
Thank you to all who continue to support our girls! We appreciate and love you all.

WHAT IS STEAM?
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. It is an acronym that was developed to address the present and future shortage of skilled workers in high tech fields.
We believe that by engaging more girls in STEAM subjects, we will further develop a sort of critical thinking. We also include the arts in our STEM club as most of our girls connect with liberal arts like music, drama, dance, and art.
We identified significant differences in how girls and boys react to STEM, their learning styles and realized that what appeals to the boys doesn't necessarily appeal to the girls. Therefore we decided to include the arts in order to incorporate their talents and take advantage of their interests by integrating the visual arts into the club activities to create STEAM. By doing so we create a positive environment of learning.
STEAM can change perceptions and beliefs about gender gaps in mathematics and science fields. Schools should cultivate girl’s achievement and interest in science and engineering and design curriculum that provides an environment of learning.
We strive to bridge the gap of the inadequate education of students mostly girls in these areas through our STEAM Clubs and see this a field that is relevant in development that can improve their problem-solving skills, especially in underserved communities.

Why do Girls Need STEAM?
We believe that EDUCATION is a human right and no child should be excluded from pursuing their dreams.
Most of our Girls are from low income families who have very limited resources and education is a luxury. They are faced with several obstacles on a daily basis that affects their school attendance and overall academic performance. We believe that a STEAM club can bridge that gap and boost their performance and confidence. Listen to Interview on why STEAM matters
Every child every GIRL should have the opportunity to attend school and receive a quality education regardless of their socia-economic circumstances or their families income level.
To support our ongoing Campaign Lifting as you Climb, we would like to invite you all to Share your Shine and or your Sisterhood Smarts with us. Please visit the teespring site here to select the tee of your choice.
Why does STEAM matter?
In our observation there is an immense imbalance is STEAM-related fields, even in countries where women are over 50% of the population. So if half the population does not engage in shaping their future then we will continue to have an imbalance and their ideas will never see the day of light. So why does STEM matter?
- Currently, most girls feel less capable in these fields and are encouraged to pursue other fields, partly due to stereotyping and cultural expectations.
- Careers in STEAM have the tendency to offer more opportunities and pay higher which can play a role in getting the families out of poverty
If you would like to sponsor one of our girl's education or support our STEM clubs kindly contact us for more information or e-mail us at empowerher@gwse.org

Let’s talk about Menstruation (Yes, you read it right)
In this article, we bust the myths about periods and address the very real issues faced by millions of women around the world every month. The menstrual cycle is “the cycle of physiological changes from the beginning of one menstrual period to the beginning of the next” (Merriam-Webster). The cycle is initiated by the ovulation (the ovaries release an egg) and ends by menstruation (in case of non-pregnancy). The menstrual cycle is a natural part of a woman’s life as eating and sleeping but represents a perpetual struggle for most women.

GENDER GAP IN THE LABOR MARKET: WHAT WE LOSE DUE TO GENDER DISPARITY?
Until the end of XIX century, women were perceived as inferior and therefore were excluded from participation in public life, politics, education, and certain professions. Since then phenomenon referring to social, political, intellectual or economic disparity due to gender differences has gradually declined. Gender gap narrowed, sex segregation in most professions significantly decreased, and women climbing the management ranks started steadily rise. For instance, in advanced countries, the gender gap in education, which has a positive relation with employment, has closed – and even reversed. Eurostat reports that in 2015 the proportion of women in the EU that had attained tertiary education (graduated from universities or other higher education institutions) exceeded that for men by 9.3 %. While women in the U.S. earn 60% of all master's degrees. Read more: Gender disparity
WORKING MOTHERS: BALANCING FAMILY AND WORK
Our generation of women has many more opportunities than the ones before us our mothers, grandmothers, and so on. Not long ago they were considered only human beings with obligations instead of rights and the most important of them was to serve their husbands and have children. Nowadays there are no restrictions in pursuing the careers women want for themselves. They get to pick their own path in life. More importantly, this generation grew up in
a world that was already benefiting from the basic civil rights of women. At least in theory, because there are still many women who unfortunately do not have them and who have the same problems as 100 years ago. Read more: Working Mothers.pdf
WOMEN LEADERS: WHY SO FEW WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP?
A leadership position requires a lot of dedication, time, work, and nerve. The
challenge for a woman is to find a balance between the career and her personal life – her
family. Besides her work position, a woman can also be a wife, a mother, a daughter, a
housekeeper, a nanny, a cook, and the list can go on. It can be very exhausting for her to
accomplish all of these roles and be effective home and at the workplace. They have to be
effective in all areas. It is expected of them to do well in those things. Read More: WHY-SO-FEW-WOMEN-IN-LEADERSHIP.pdf
